Maloof Money Cup

Its that time again, where the world famous Maloof Money Cup world skateboarding championship rolls into Kimberly, South Africa from the 28th to the 30th of September.

 

Its geared to be sick one with a host of local and international pro stars coming to the fore.

 

I spoke to a friend and Maloof competitor, Derrick Shadrack, here’s what he had to say:

 yea sure

 what are you competing in, and where are your sights set?

 i plan to compete in the pro division,

 sick, so what kind of skaters will you be competing against?

 like the international pros such as andrew reynolds, alex mizurov, manny santiago, theres quite a bit coming

 dude… i just saw ryan dicenzo and Lizad King are coming thru… thats murder dude!

 haha yea and he was there last year i think he’s coming again, those guys are crazy man but it will push me to perform u know

 yeah… i know what thats about smile
and who’s the most insane international skater you’ve met

 Andrew Reynolds, last years Maloof, and he’s my favorite.

Woah… he is sick… how about the local guys… who’s bringing it?

i’m goofy, and i like to skate ledge and stairs so hopefully i can land the tricks i have in mind, def wanna pull a hardflip and a treflip down the big 4 at the Maloof.

So to sum it all up, Malloof Money Cup is a rag-tag gathering of some of the worlds craziest mofos riding pieces of tree on wheels all for the grand prize of 400,000 quid.

Friday 28 Sept: Vert World Championship:
10am – 5pm: Open Vert and Mini Mega Practice
10am – 11am: South African Am Open Qualifier
Open Jam
Designated number of skaters will be chosen to skate in the South African Am
11am – 2pm: Open Street Practice
2pm – 4:30pm: Street World Championship Qualifiers
Format TBD based on number of skaters
4:30 – 4:45pm: Opening Ceremonies on the Vert Ramp
5pm – 6pm: Vert World Championship
12 skaters
2 Jams
6 skaters per Jam, skate in order
5 runs, best counts
12 walls back-to-back
If skater falls prior to 12th wall, run is over
All runs are scored even if skater doesn’t make all 12 walls
50% of score, Mini Mega is other 50%
Overall time is 58 minutes
6:15pm – 8:15pm: Concert – details TBD
8:15pm: Fireworks
Saturday 29 Sept: Mini-Mega, Street World Championship Qualifiers:
Live Webcast 12:45pm – 6:30pm & Live TV from 4:30pm – 6:30pm South African Standard Time
10am – 1pm: Open Street Practice
12pm – 4:30pm: Mini-Mega Practice
1pm – 4pm: Street World Championship Semi-Finals
36 Skaters
12 Jams
3 skaters per Jam
Course split into 2 sections with middle hubba area being part of both sections
3 minute Jams
4 minutes in between each Jam
Skaters judged on overall impression
Top 12 skaters advance to Finals with 1st through 4th getting a first round bye
Overall time is 2 hours and 48 minutes
4pm – 4:30pm: Concert – details TBD
4:30pm – 6:30pm:Mini Mega Finals and Awards
12 Vert Finalists automatically qualify

8 runs, best counts
5 minutes in between each Jam
50% of score, Vert is other 50%
Overall time is 58 minutes
Sunday 30 Sept: Am Street, Mini-Mega Gap Best Trick, and Street World Championship:

4:30pm – 6:30pm:Street World Championship Finals and Awards 
12 Skaters in head to head Jams using the entire course
4 minute Jams
3 minutes in between each Jam
Final Jam is 4 minutes with 6 minute rest before
Skaters judged on overall impression
Overall time is 1 hour and 20 minute
